For Liz – Blog Entry Learn
Hi Liz, this is where you will create “Posts’ that are the entries in your blog.
For these entries you have lots of edit buttons just above this text and the ability to add images and video etc etc. as formats to the right. Note the option to use the blue button “Backend or Frontend Editors” above … which are the same but different to the “Visual”” option tabs to the top right of this box. I recommend the “Backend Editor” over the “Classic” mode.
You can also add Categories for the Posts, which I recommend to do if my own suggestion is not suitable. You also have lots of options for the page layout (below in the right column). Many though should be left as is, as I have set these to fit with the rest of the site.
The 404 buttons to the right of this text are an additon I have added, so that if you delete a post that people might want to read, they will be directed to whatever you specify. It will just happen automatically. But do remember to add you own “Slug” at the top under the Title, as this is what the browser address bar will show.
A little way below this window is the “Translation” area where – when you are finished typing in English in this window – you click the “Copy Source to Post” button to copy all this text+ into that window – so you can then change that into Spanish. That window’s text+ entry is what will appear in the .es website. wooHoo we hope! As I write this I have not tried the methods for copying to the Spanish sub-domain very much yet, but we hope this is what will do it. In a worse case, you can grab and copy all the content of the Post or Page and then paste it into a new Post or Page on the Spanish network site.
NB:The blue Update button to the right is where you save your work. You have to do that everytime, or te page warns you when you try to leave. You have a Preview button to open a fresh browser window to check your work – BEFORE you make sure you wish to PUBLISH your work (always note the “Status” and “Visibilty” settings)
NB: Again, before you finish creating your new blog entry, above this window is the Title and the Permalink … do put something good in both of these, the Permalink is what appears in the browser address bar. The Title can be switched on or off somewhere on the left of this text.
– The “Translation Completed” button is just to tell/show you that you have finished the translation work. If this plug-in works correctly.
– “Public” gives you other Blog status options.
– “Revisions” shows you all the past saves … which can be useful if you ness something up, but they can add up over time, so will need clearing. You can see my few revisions of this post if you look there.
– The “Posts” menu, which you have found to the right (below “Dashboard”) is where you create all these blog entries.
Now, if you want people to start responding to posts, that is to comment etc with access to do this. We will need to look at the permissions and how you want it to operate etc. The development of the Blog feature might be something we need to discuss further? Depends.
As you can begin to see: WP is a vast and very capble beast. You have made the right choice by moving to this and the possibilies are huge. But a bit at a time. Try to stay away from any WP area you do not understand (even if your User status gives you access and you can actually see all the many utilities that is?).
So, as the kids say – happy blooging!
